what was your favorite game as a child, and why? with whom did you play it?

i can tell you what my favourite game WAS NOT. perfection! remember perfection? the TICK TICK TICK TICK and i would get so nervous and when the thing would explode out at you i would always scream. it was kind of terrorizing.

i guess my favourite games were the ones i made up with my sister. make believe type stuff. or later on we had one where we basically duelled with pillows and it was actually pretty rough and then she bit me and i still have the scar (man i am such a stream of consciousness today). or snuffs. noone but laura will know what snuffs means but yes. definitely a big part our sisterly childhood remembrances.

if you could confront the worst teacher you've ever had, what would you tell him or her?

oh man. mr. szestopaulo (shit i can't remember how to spell his name.. i checked the kal website. he's not there anymore.. crazy how many of them are though! including my favourite ever teacher, mr. krahn)

anyways. math 11. he was such a joke. i'm pretty sure he was an alcoholic and was drunk some of the time. dani said she was pretty sure he smoked up on his lunchbreaks. apart from all that, he obviously had no real interest in helping us learn and would LOVE to insult anyone in the class with his namesake 'jokes' that went along the line of, 'KATE IF YOUR BRAIN WERE DYNAMITE, IT WOULDN'T MAKE A RIPPLE IN A TOILET BOWL!!' har har. he thought he was hilarious. i always sucked at math, but then again, i don't think i studied AT ALL during high school. i just coasted by on okay grades without doing shit all. anyways i did try somewhat in his class because shit, HE wasn't going to teach me anything. one time i went up to him to clarify how to do a question and he just sighed, picked up a pen, silently did the equation in front of me on a piece of paper and handed it to me. 'there. understand now???' yeah. he was a gem. luckily every other teacher at that school rocked the house and grades 11 and 12 were definitely my fondest years of high school.

what would be your first purchase if you won the lottery?

this is a popular query my dad likes to ask around the dinner table sometimes. (he's funny. evvvverytime he buys a lottery ticket, which is often, he lists off all the amazing things he is going to do with his winnings. it's cute!)

my answer, since ever, has been: 'take all my friends to disneyland, but of course!!!'

and that still stands. omg how much fun would that be. me and like 20 something of my besties charging around d-land.

that is the fanciful answer, anyways.

the more prudent answers would be:

pay off student debt!
buy my grandparents house in north van!
start a small animal rescue!

a girl can dream anyways.

speaking of disneyland, i watched this video the other day. it would fall into the category of moderately amusing, if it weren't for 1:25 which propels it into the realm of hilarity. i seriously spit out my pop at that part. yuk yuk.

What is your favorite opening line of a book, and why?

not the most novel choices, but they are my favourites just the same. a tie, between:

'If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth.' (catcher in the rye, j.d. salinger)

'Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.' (lolita, vladimir nabokov)

qotd: What's the origin of your username? If you could change it to anything else, would you, and what would it be?

originally, there was starkat. the basis of the name is pretty basic. star (because i like stars and decorate things with stars) and kat (my nickname to some people is katiekat) i'm not entirely sure why i abandoned that journal. i think i was going through a pretty big transitional period at the time and felt the need for a fresh start. plus i think i was trying to escape philip's attentions. i still look at it from time to time to see what i was doing say, seven years ago today. and because i am a huge sentimentalist.

kitty_katya.. kitty (obvious) and katya.. my name in russian. at the time i started the journal i was crazy in love with my russian teacher, inna tigounstova. like, she inspired poetry and basically paralyzed me whenever she'd look at me. she would call me katya (but she called everyone else by their english names, so i liked that :) (holy shit though, i just looked her up on google and she looks sooo different. still cute though <3) anyways it was her brain that was sexiest. even more tangential: it was a small class and most of them knew she made me swoon, due to one drunken night at felicitas when i spilled the beans. from then on it was constant winks and conspiratorial looks whenever she'd single me out in class. i think she knew, and after a couple of office hours i was convinced she dug me too. but that was probably not the case, who knows. so... katya!

i wouldn't change my username. three is enough

(there was also funereal_star which was for private writings and posting on communities related to things i was going through at the time. so the name reflects that. then i lightened up and transformed it into a photoblog. i really should start that again!)

the end.
